Web design process
The diagram on the right shows an outline of the process for web development.
As with most development work, the first stage is to work with the customer to agree a set of requirements. This results in a signed-off requirements document.
Once it has been decided what the site will do (or contain) the next step is to decide on the look of the site by designing templates for each main type of page in the site. Our usual approach here is to discuss with the client the general kind of look and feel they are after. We then produce a set of design alternatives for the client to consider. The design continues iteratively refining and narrowing options until the template design is agreed.
The next step is to roll-out the content onto the template to create finished pages. The content (at least in outline) must come from the client, although we can take care of the final wording and editing.
If the site is to have any dynamic content this is added next. This may be anything from a simple feedback form to an ecommerce or content management system.
If there are any outstanding issues or additional changes to be made. The page content can be iterated until the client is happy.
The finished site it can now go live.
If the client wishes for us to continue maintaining the site on their behalf we then enter an on-ging maintenance loop.
